Principles of Leadership and Management in Law Enforcement is designed to
serve as a comprehensive and readable textbook for a one-semester course
that deals with management and leadership within a police agency. The
authors’ goal is to present a text that will open the readers’ eyes to the fascinating
concepts involving leadership and management as they are applied to
police organizations.
The material covered is organized and presented in a logical fashion,
with each chapter building on the previous chapters. In each of the chapters,
our objective is to encourage the reader to think about and inquire into the
development of new insights on the directions of police management concepts.
While each chapter builds on the previous chapters, the text will be
written in a manner to reduce the necessity of memorization by readers.
The authors would like to express their appreciation to the numerous
individuals who helped contribute to the development of the text, including
but not limited to our editor Carolyn Spence; Jennifer Stair, project manager
for Taylor & Francis; and Katherine Grier, Cenveo Publisher Services.
Comments, corrections, and opinions regarding the text are appreciated
and may be submitted to cliff.roberson@washburn.edu.
