Kirk W. Junker holds the Chair of U.S. American Law at the University of
Cologne, where he is also Director of the Environmental Law Center, Board
Chair of the International Master of Environmental Science (I.M.E.S.)
Program, and a Principal Investigator at the Global South Studies Centre.
He also serves as an expert witness before German courts. Before joining
the Law Faculty at the University of Cologne, Prof. Junker was Associate
Professor of Law and Director of International Programs at the Duquesne
University School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He held the
first cross-border academic position after the Belfast Agreement simultaneously
being a full-time faculty member at both Queen’s University
of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Dublin City University, Republic of
Ireland. Earlier, he was a member of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of
the Open University in the United Kingdom. Prof. Junker is an Adjunct
Professor of Comparative and International Environmental Law to the
Law Faculty at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne; the Institute of
Environment Education and Research, Bharati Vidyapeeth University,
Pune, India; and Sts. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Northern
Macedonia. Prof. Junker is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and
before the federal courts of the U.S.A. For nine years, he practiced environmental
law as litigation counsel to the Pennsylvania Department of
Environmental Resources.
