This book comes from a number of years of interest in the counterfeit
fashion industry, and, even long before getting to the stage of wanting to
write it, so many colleagues and friends have helped me along the way –
through discussing ideas, support and at times, simply some encouragement.
My first thanks go to the staff and my PhD supervisory team in the
School of Law at Leeds University. This opportunity has made everything
since possible. During the writing of this book, I moved from the School
of Social Sciences and Law at Teesside University to the School for Policy
Studies at University of Bristol. I would like to thank my colleagues in
both departments for their support and encouragement. I also have to
thank my wider criminological academic (and also support) network, who
inspire me academically and make the tough days easier: Alexandra Hall,
James Treadwell, Tom Raymen, Tammy Ayres, Oliver Smith and Corina
Medley. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my research.
Writing this book during increasingly pressurised times in HE, not to
mention long distance job and house moves and various personal life ‘mini
crises’ would simply not have been possible without the support of my
friends and family who are too many to mention individually: I love you
all. Special thanks to Scottish Katie for believing in me and being the kindest,
toughest yet most gentle person to ever walk into my life, to the JSAM
crew for the ‘moments’, Charlene for the headspace, and of course; mum,
dad, Sophie and Mick for being my rocks.
